My friend sets sail

I have had the privilege of knowing "JC" since November of 06. JC is a very interesting man who has accomplished many things in his life. At his retirement he had the boat in the picture you see custom built. It is a one of a kind houseboat that not only carries 2500 gallons of diesel, but is built to carry his convertible mustang on his journeys. He and the "Pied Piper" have traveled from the great lakes to the gulf. JC now over 80 left out on another trip today to Hendersonville TN. I have learned a lot from this man not the least of which life is to be lived to the fullest.

There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

Happy Birthday Mona!

Some of the kids made Mona a birthday card (a very large card) The kids billed it as the "worlds largest" Thanks Mona for all you do, and thanks Kids for being so thoughtful.

Celebrating a touchdown red neck style

Last year at Joe T High School we had a young man who would run with the school flag when ever a touchdown was made. Well this year another young man decided that running was for the birds, and the best way to show school spirit was with a red neck, jacked up go cart. It brings the crowd to their feet every time it runs down the track.

See You At The Pole

Wednesday

September 26, 2007

7:00 AM

See You at the Pole™ isn't about groups, grades, clothes, or churches. It's about praying. It's about all of us coming together and laying aside all the labels for one day, simply to call out to God, just as Jesus did in John 17 and say, "Lord, may we be one in you -- whether jocks, preps, geeks, Pentecostals, Baptists, Catholics, freshmen, or seniors -- may the world believe that You are real and have sent us to touch other through you, regardless of the dividing lines drawn by a broken world!"

So are you in? Are you ready whatever group you're in, to join us in the circle? Join your generation of faith on Wednesday, September 26, at 7 a.m., GATHER at your school flagpole, UNITE in the name of the One Who died to save you, and PRAY for your school, friends, and families. COME TOGETHER, just as Jesus prayed we would.

SEE YOU AT THE POLE!

Expired

Thanks Stephanie for this article:

A lady always used to say that when she died she wanted a parking meter on her grave that says "Expired". So her nephew got her one on ebay! Her grave is right by the road so everyone can see it and many people have stopped to get a chuckle.

DON'T GIVE UP ON TRUST

A post by Pastor Butch Tanner

One woman describes herself as "five feet, three inches tall and pleasingly plump." After she had a minor accident, her mother accompanied her to the emergency room. The triage nurse asked for her height and weight, and she blurted out, "Five-foot-eight, 125 pounds."While the nurse pondered over this information, the woman's mother leaned over to her. "Sweetheart," she said gently, "this is not theInternet."The Internet is becoming known as a place where the truth is not readily apparent. I've learned from the Internet that I have extremely wealthy acquaintances in Africa that have enormous sums of money they need to transfer out of the country. They literally contact me everyday! And if I will only help, they will gladly share a portion of their bounty with me and I'll become an instant multi-millionaire. Others promise me wealth beyond my wildest dreams if only I invest in an up-and-coming business venture. Daily, the Internet reminds me that greed can lead to disaster; that not everybody has my best interest in mind and I must be sensibly cautious. But in most relationships, I would rather trust than shut others out.I would rather be taken advantage of by a few than isolate myself from everybody. Perhaps not everybody should be trusted, but I would hateto experience life without it.Ralph Waldo Emerson put it well: "Trust men and they will be true to you; treat them greatly and they will show themselves great."Children will more often live up our high expectations than not.Friends and colleagues will generally show themselves to be dependable. The world we live in is a good world, inhabited by mostly good people who can still be counted on.If you feel cynical, don't give up on trust. Others will usually come through. If love makes the world go 'round, then trust makes the love go 'round.

OK so I have been slow on my posting, how about this then?

There was a little old lady, who every morning. stepped onto her
front porch, raised her arms to the sky, and shouted: "PRAISE THE LORD!" One day an atheist moved into the house next door. He became
irritated at the little old lady.
Every morning he'd step onto his front porch after her and yell:
"THERE IS NO LORD!"
Time passed with the two of them carrying on this way every day.
One morning, in the middle of winter, the little old lady stepped
Onto her front porch and shouted: "PRAISE THE LORD! Please Lord, I have no food and I am starving, provide for me, oh Lord!
The next morning she stepped out onto her porch and there were two
Huge bags of groceries sitting there. "PRAISE THE LORD!" she cried out. "HE HAS PROVIDED GROCERIES FOR ME!"
The atheist neighbor jumped out of the hedges and shouted:
"THERE IS NO LORD. I BOUGHT THOSE GROCERIES!!"
The little old lady threw her arms into the air and shouted:
"PRAISE THE LORD! HE HAS PROVIDED ME WITH GROCERIES AND MADE THE DEVIL PAY FOR THEM!

OK not so good, maybe tomorrow..

Dr. D. James Kennedy passes away

The Rev. D. James Kennedy, a pioneering megachurch pastor who became one of the nation's most prominent Christian broadcasters and a key figure in the rise of the religious right, died Wednesday, a church spokesman said. He was 76. Church spokesman John Aman said Kennedy died at his home in Fort Lauderdale. He had announced his retirement last month and had recently suffered a heart attack. Kennedy took the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale from a congregation of 45 in 1959 to a megachurch of nearly 10,000 members today...
He also founded the Center for Christian Statesmanship in Washington, organizing Capitol Hill Bible studies and other events that attracted top government officials and encouraged them “to embrace God’s providential purpose for this nation.”

In 1974, Kennedy started Coral Ridge Ministries, his radio and TV outreach arm, which now claims a weekly audience of 3.5 million. Kennedy’s TV show “The Coral Ridge Hour,” airs on more than 400 stations and four cable networks and is broadcast to more than 150 countries on the Armed Forces Network, his ministry says. Last year, the National Religious Broadcasters association inducted him into their Hall of Fame.

“He was one of the early visionaries who saw that you could use electronic media to extend the four walls of the church to reach a broader audience,” said Frank Wright, president and chief executive officer of the NRB.

Kennedy was a close colleague of the Rev. Pat Robertson, the Rev. Jerry Falwell and other religious broadcasters and was an early board member of the Moral Majority, which Falwell formed in 1979.

No service Sunday

I do not like to cancel services, however it seems that this Sunday we will have very few left in town. This has been a short as well as a very busy summer for most of the families in our church. I encourage everyone to do something with their families on this last Summer Holiday. We sill start back with the Pioneer program Wednesday night at 6PM.(an hour earlier than normal) There will be finger foods, fellowship and a silent auction.
